Barber Chris

  • Graduated Lansing Barber College (1998)

  • Dave’s Barber Styling, Midland MI (1998-2001)
I Worked under the owner (Dave), a barber of 44 years at the time. When I first met Dave he told me, “All they taught you in Barber School was how to hold your clippers, I’m going to teach you to be a barber”. As a 19 year old kid I thought he was crazy, I was told all through barber school how great I was. Even nicknamed “golden hands”. After watching Dave do two haircuts and watching how successful his business was, I realized I didn’t know anything. I learned so much from him in just two years. I’m forever grateful for his mentorship.

  • Esquire Barber Shop, Holt MI (2001-2006)
I worked for the owner Bob. Bob was one of my instructors in Barber School. He reached out to me and asked if I’d be interested in working with him. Now at 21 years old, I had many friends living in Lansing at the time. I decided to join Bob, and move to the Lansing area, where I had plenty of fun as a 21 year old. But also learned so much from Bob. Bob’s style of barbering and business sense was different than Dave’s. Both very successful, neither was better than the other, just different. I become very close to Bob, and I, to this day appreciate everything he did for me.

  • Barber Chris, Holt MI (2006-2013)
After spending 5 years with Bob, I decided it was time to open my own shop. The experience was like none other. When it’s all on you. One of my biggest take aways was that I learned what not to do, more often than what to do. I ran a successful business, however being just a one chair shop, I realized that if I wanted to grow, I needed a change.

  • Experience Hair Design/BarberChris, Mount Pleasant MI (2014-2020)
In Mount Pleasant I found my stride. It didn’t take long before I was very popular with the CMU students. I devolved great relationships in the community and business grew. I added a stylist in 2015, and another in 2019. We managed to incorporate a unique barber/salon atmosphere that people really enjoyed. Then Covid happened.

  • Barber Chris, Houghton Lake (Present)
After nearly 8 months of uncertainty as to what the future holds, I’m excited to open my shop up north! I have many friends and family in the area, and I feel this is where my heart my truly is!
